QLD Seminar: Good Theory Good Practice

The Qld CDAA Division is pleased to announce that our annual Good Theory Good Practice professional development day will once again held at the Wynnum Library on Saturday 16th September 9am – 2pm.

This year’s program will focus on employability, lifelong career leaning, social justice, community building, and digital careers!

Also available for the first time will be a professional online LIVE STREAM of the event. If you cannot make the event in person, you can join us online where we will be encouraging inclusive discussion. Whether you are in person or online, you will actively be encouraged to join in with this event.

As in previous years, we have put together a high quality program which will appeal to Career Practitioners from all sectors, including those working in private practice, universities, vocational education colleges and secondary schools.

Title: How to “do” employability: careers and the need to learn a living
Session Info: This keynote will challenge the dominant thinking about employability by positioning it as a process of discovery and learning across the lifespan. The presenter will explore career touchpoints across the lifespan and attempt to bust some of the common myths. A key focus for the session will be strengths-based, social cognitive approaches to working with learners and clients.

Title: Breaking Down the Silos:  the integration of media studies and industry.
Session info: Over decades the academy has provided predominately theoretically based studies in media and media production. The industry has provided much of its own education and training. In recent time these two approaches have become increasingly irrelevant.  Presentation will address how through a contemporary model, these two disconnected spaces have found common ground and relevance for students and industry alike.

1 Panel Event: Digital Careers panel discussion – Guest speakers who are working in Tech Recruitment, Vocational Education (Digital Design), and Software Development.

Morning tea & lunch provided
