Erin Bartley is a careers adviser with Skills Development Scotland living and working in the West of Scotland, by the bonnie shores of Loch Lomond. She has worked for Skills Development Scotland/Careers Scotland for five years and before this worked for Learn Direct Scotland offering Careers Guidance over the phone. She has built up a great deal of experience working in Scottish Schools and enjoys facing a challenge. As such she is currently on an exchange placement in Western Australia that she organized in order to experience careers guidance from the opposite end of the world.

Erin will share ¡¥how she sees it¡¦ as she develops her understanding of the positives and negatives each country has to offer. The presentation will give an introduction of the practical work being done in Scotland, the socioeconomic background this is set against and the comparisons between this and the Australian equivalent. Erin hopes to provide insight into the sharing of good practice and pointers that both countries can use to develop the guidance offered to the many different client groups we strive to engage and motivate.

Some of the main issues discussed will be:

  • Phone counselling
  • Social issues and the long term unemployed
  • Schools intervention Projects
  • Transition Programs
