Student
Applicants in this category are required to be studying either part-time or full-time towards a recognised career-specific qualification. Apply online

 Member Application

Associate

Available to people who are currently working in the career development field.

 Member Application Professional

Available to people with a bachelor degree qualification in a discipline relevant to career development (Relevant qualifications can include professional disciplines in psychology, counselling, education, human resources, rehabilitation, and social work.) and significant career development experience (not less than two years full-time equivalent in the five-year period preceding the date of application)

Student Membership Application

By joining as a student member you are taking the first step in joining a community of career development professionals.  Not only will you be kept up to date about industry developments through our fortnightly e-bulletin and the Australian Career Practitioner magazine, but you will also have access to a range of professional development and networking opportunities where you can build your links with other practitioners.

Student membership is open to people studying a career development related qualification.  This could be in a range of areas including career development, HR, education, counselling, psychology, social work, and rehabilitation. 

The annual fee for Student Membership is $45.00 (inc GST)

Professional Membership Application

Professional Membership with the CDAA is available practitioners holding a Graduate Certificate or Vocational Graduate Certificate endorsed by CICA, be currently working as a career development practitioner, and have at least one year's experience working in the field; or meet the requirements of the alternative pathway to Professional Membership. (one off $48 joining fee + $258.00pa)

CORE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Applicants for Professional membership are required to confirm on the application for membership that they currenlty possess the Core Skills and Knowledge listed below. The CDAA Registration Board, at its discretion, may require applicants to supply evidence of their ongoing professional development so that their Core Skills and Knowledge is kept current. Corrosponding to an increase in the need for career services around the world, attention had been focused on the qualifications, skills and knowledge of career practitioners. In this regard, the CDAA has always required its professional members to meet core skills and knowledge deemed to be essential to providing high quality career services. The CDAA Core Skills and Knowledge requirements aligns members with nationally agreed and internationally benchmarked competencies developed by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA). These may be viewed in entirety at www.cdaa.org.au

Core Skills and Knowledge
Professional members are expected to demonstrate the CICA core competencies which can be grouped into seven broad categories, specifically:

  1. Career development theory
  2. Labour market
  3. Advanced communication skills
  4. Ethical practice
  5. Diversity
  6. Information and resource management
  7. Professional practice

eg: Networking, Professional Development, Insurance, etc
